Tidy Up!

Marie Kondo, a Japanese organizing consultant recently launched her book: The Life Changing Method of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organising. Here are some tips from her book that you can start at home or at work:.

1. GO BY CATEGORIES, NOT ROOMS
Kondo’s advise is to tidy by category, otherwise the clutter will creep from room to room. Start with clothes first, then books then mementos like photographs.
2. DON’T FEEL NOSTALGIC
Your aim is to discard what is needed and tidy up, hence stick to the objective. Once you start opening all sorts of letters for example, the act of tidying up will be delayed. So don’t get distracted!
3. JOY
If the item you are considering keeping doesn’t spark joy in you, let it go.
4. FOLD, DON’T HANG
Kondo suggests that clothing would be a lot better off folded and kept in a drawer. In fact she suggest ways to fold different types of garments, and kept in a way that you can view all your folded items easily.
