New Year Eve’s dinner is a significant feast and extremely important to the Chinese community. It’s also a time to connect, and enjoy a meal together with the ones you love.
1. SPRING ROLLS
Egg rolls are probably the most well-known Chinese cuisine. However, they’re actually “spring rolls.” They are eaten during the Spring Festival in Southern China to celebrate the coming of spring.
2. DUMPLINGS
Another well-known dish, dumplings are the northern equivalent of spring rolls. They are eaten during every special occasion, but are the most significant during Chinese New Year.
3. NOODLES
In some places, it’s customary to cook dumplings and noodles together. This is called gold silk and gold ingots. It’s yet another dish to express people’s wishes for prosperity.
4. STEAMED CHICKEN
Cooking chicken as part of the CNY feast represents reunion and rebirth.
